Sensei Candelario's Open Letter About His Recent Trip:
Soke Iwao Tamotsu gave me the opportunity to visit Japan and attend to zenkoku taikai Fukuoka 2014. In years past, I developed a great relationship with members from Renshinkan all over Japan, but it is in Fukuoka especially, I have met some of my greatest friends and family and where I have learned so much. This made the 2014 zenkoku taikai an even more extraordinary experience for me.
I have visited Fukuoka several times over the years and each time I have returned with a deeper understanding of budo no kokoro, The spirit in Fukuoka reflects the true essence of the teachings given to me by Soke Sensei during my visits to Japan. I am grateful that I was able to arrive in Fukuoka many days before the tournament and have the opportunity to visit several dojos. It was inspiring to watch the spirit with which they teach the kids - full kokoro. In every dojo and every class there is a deep commitment, determination, respect and love for Renshinkan Karate and Soke Sensei.
Renshinkan is a unique style that focuses on the development of our youth and making our children strong leaders for the future to make the world a better place to live in. I witnessed in Fukuoka Tatsuya Ueno and his father, along with the members and families of Renshinkan Fukuoka, giving their hearts completely to their students and to Renshinkan overall. They are dedicated to following the way of Renshinkan and Soke Sensei
Soke sensei always guides me and teaches me the importance of having a pure heart and helping others. The work with his foundation is what inspired me to make a foundation in California and help others that need it the most. The principles that Soke Sensei has given to me such as courage, honesty, compassion, determination, budo no kokoro, humility, having a peaceful mind and heart has helped me to follow the right path in my life and has made me a much better teacher to my students in Renshinkan. I thank Soke Sensei and the art of Renshinkan for giving me these gifts.
The tournament was a true reflection of the great heart and hard efforts that the Fukuoka members and families made to produce an amazing zenkoku taikai, Great katas and kumite, great enbu from the Taiwan team and impressive enbu by shihans and members This was a unique show of Renshinkan Karate
It is now is up to us to help our Soke and Renshinkan Taiwan to come together and support them in making a great world championship, making history as a one Renshinkan family – a big family with Renshinkan budo no kokoro
Thank you on behalf of our entire Renshinkan California Family and myself.
William Candelario, Shihan
Last month was a celebration of Soke Sensei's visit to Renshinkan Memphis.
As I arrived to Memphis, I felt like I was being welcomed into my own home. The Renshinkan Memphis Team has an incredible spirit and great kokoro (heart) that filled their visitors with love and great energy.
I was extremely impressed to see how much Renshinkan Memphis has grown over the past few years. They are building a strong Renshinkan community. The Memphis dojo kids reflect the great spirit of Renshinkan in their practice and presence and the parents of these kids are committed to supporting the dojo and their children's growth in their practice. it was touching to see.
I cannot express with words the extreme respect I have for Renshinkan Memphis, especially Kyoshi Nunez and his wife.
Thank you so much for receiving me with such great spirit and for hosting this amazing weekend for the Renshinkan communities of Memphis, California, Florida and Puerto Rico. I greatly appreciate the hard work and effort it took to make this seminar come together.
I look forward to seeing the continued growth of Renshinkan Memphis. Keep going together and represent Renshinkan with pride!
William Candelario, Shihan - RENSHINKAN CALIFORNIA
NOTE: Soke Sensei explained that is our job as leaders in Renshinkan to unite and to create a better world for the next generation. "Dream" was the big topic. I learned a lot from him, as I always do.
This is an interesting article that outlines a recent study that found women who practiced self defense were significantly less likely to experience unwanted sexual contact than those who don't.
This article focuses not only on the effects of learning the physical skills of self-defense, but, perhaps more importantly, the empowerment that is cultivated through the practice of martial arts.
A very interesting read:
On the anniversary of the passing of Soke Isamu Tamotsu, the children from our Little Dragons performed a presentation in honor of his memory.
The teaching of the origins and history of Shorinji-ryu Renshinkan Karate Do is as important as the teaching of technique in our Renshinkan California classes. When the kids have an understanding of where the art came from, they form a deeper connection to the art and begin to develop the aspect of budo.
It is impressive how much knowledge our Little Dragons have acquired,
Here is the movie they made in honor of our founder, Soke Isamu Tamotsu. They did a pretty good job!
